Your Muir Woods Tour for Two

Golden Gate Bridge

The adventure starts by heading north from Fisherman’s Wharf and driving across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Depending on traffic and conditions, your guide may stop at a scenic viewpoint for sweeping views of the bridge, San Francisco skyline, bay, and Pacific Ocean.

This is also a great place for that essential “yes, we really were in San Francisco” photo.

Muir Woods National Monument

This is the main event.

Step out of the Jeep and explore Muir Woods on foot beneath towering coast redwoods, some reaching more than 250 feet into the sky.

Your visit inside Muir Woods is self-guided, giving you time to walk at your own pace, take photos, and enjoy the quiet forest.

Your guide remains with the Jeep while you explore.

Muir Woods admission is not included in the tour price.

Muir Beach Overlook

After the redwoods, trade forest for ocean.

When road and weather conditions allow, we’ll stop at Muir Beach Overlook, perched high above the Pacific Ocean.

Cliffs. Waves. Big views. Very little city noise.

It is one of our favorite stops on the entire route.

Sausalito

Cruise through beautiful Sausalito, the waterfront town just across the bay from San Francisco.

Expect hillside homes, marinas, boats, cafés, shops, and views across the bay toward the city.

On the standard tour, Sausalito is generally a scenic drive-through. Add extra tour time if you would like to stop and explore.

You may also choose to finish your tour in Sausalito and return to San Francisco later by ferry.

Marin Headlands

Before heading back across the bridge, your guide may include a stop in the Marin Headlands when traffic, weather, and access cooperate.

This is where you can get those giant postcard views looking back toward the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.

Clear day? Fantastic.

Fog rolling through the bridge towers? Also fantastic — just considerably more San Francisco.

Tour Start Location

Tours depart from Fisherman’s Wharf at Hyde & Jefferson Streets, using the passenger loading area on the Hyde Street side near the Argonaut Hotel.

Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled departure.

• Tours are conducted in English
• Muir Woods is explored on foot and is self-guided
• Muir Woods admission is separate from the tour price
• Guests must be age 3 or older
• Child and booster seats are available by advance request
• The Jeep is not wheelchair accessible
• Large luggage and bulky strollers cannot be accommodated
• Tours operate in typical Bay Area weather, including fog, wind, and light rain
• Routes may change because of traffic, road closures, weather, park access, or other conditions
• Muir Beach Overlook and Marin Headlands stops are subject to access and weather conditions
• Tours canceled at least 24 hours before departure are refundable
• Same-day cancellations and no-shows are non-refundable

Dress in Layers

San Francisco can be sunny while Muir Woods is cool and shaded and the Pacific Coast is windy — sometimes all within the same hour.

Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes

You’ll explore Muir Woods on foot, so comfortable shoes are a good idea.

Travel Light

Small bags are best. Jeep space is limited, and giant suitcases are considerably less scenic than giant redwoods.

Don’t Fear the Fog

Fog can dramatically change the Golden Gate and coastal views. If one viewpoint disappears, your guide may adjust the route and look for a better one.
